| My First Mezuzah |
I’ve been embroidering for a long time. I usually design my own work, and I’d been thinking about doing work that reflects my spirituality and is more than just decorative.
I decided to try and make a mezuzah case. I used a rubber stamp with the letter shin on it for the basic shape. The ink created a great pattern to follow, so I went with it.
The box is done in stem stitch, with the shaded part in whipped running stitch. The letter shin is satin stich, with whipped outline stitch. The whipping is done with metallic fillament. At the ends are little loops of white silk ribbon to use for posting it to the wall and the sides are done in blanket stitch.
I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out, and will definitely do some more. I’ll probably branch out and really design my own for the next one, instead of relying on the stamp. But, there is something really nice about the simplicity of this one.
Guess what everyone is getting for Hannukah this year!
